Reading is Thinking!

Text + Thinking = REAL reading!

Metacognition is thinking about your thinking.  We have been using thinking stems to share our thinking about our thinking.

Readers use their schema (prior knowledge) to make connections while reading.  We have been using thinking stems to share our connections.

We made a real reading salad.  We used red text tomatoes and green thinking lettuce.

Real reading is when you read the text and include your thinking.  We had more green thinking cards in our real reading salad, because when we read, our thinking takes up more space than words on the page.

In Reader's Workshop we are trying to choose "just right" books.  We use I PICK to help us decide if a book is just right.
